Measuration of Relationship, 2018

Installation

According to Edward T. Hall, there are several factors that influence interpersonal distance, such as language, culture, olfaction, temperature, touch, and sound. Although physical distance between people does not fully represent the complexity of interpersonal relationships, understanding these psychological rules can help improve relationships among people.

JungJiea believes that cultural differences create a barrier between people, resulting in a feeling of distance or boundary between individuals. To explore this concept further, she created an installation that represents this invisible barrier as a transparent wall made of compressed acrylic boards. The wall's shape symbolizes the repression of emotions and feelings of depression that can arise from cultural differences.
